These willows flower at the same time when their leaves emerge. From far, the yellow colour might be easily mistaken as new leaves, but when looking closer, the yellow catkins impress by their vast numbers.
Both willow trees on the photo above belong to the same species. The right (yellow flowering) tree is male, while the left female willow bears greenish catkins (willows are dioecious, i.e. female and male flowers are on separate individuals).

Season: Spring
In mid April, trees in the Schönbuch forest open their buds and quickly cover the forest in new green leaves. These pictures were taken in a time span of approx. 2 weeks (April 11th–27th, 2018).

The beeches buds are still closed yet noticeably growing in their size:
