These willows flower at the same time when their leaves emerge. From far, the yellow colour might be easily mistaken as new leaves, but when looking closer, the yellow catkins impress by their vast numbers.

Both willow trees on the photo above belong to the same species. The right (yellow flowering) tree is male, while the left female willow bears greenish catkins (willows are dioecious, i.e. female and male flowers are on separate individuals).

Unfortunately, the intensely sweet fragrance of the willow blossom and the sound of the many bees in the tree is not captured in the photos.
